A decision on the future of a derelict piece of land in Didcot described as an eyesore has been further delayed after vital information was left out of a council report.

South Oxfordshire District Council's cabinet was due to make a decision on the future of the town centre site on December 3, but a report was withdrawn at the last minute.

The council-owned site, at the junction of Wessex Road and Mereland Road, covers a quarter of an acre and includes boarded-up housing offices and the former Citizens Advice Bureau.

Officers are proposing to redevelop the area with social housing, including affordable flats and a five-bedroom bungalow for young people with learning and physical difficulties.

Didcot councillor and Labour group leader Mike McNulty said the site had been a blot on the landscape for years.

He criticised the council for being slow in developing proposals.

Malcolm Morley, the council's strategic director for housing, apologised for the further delay.

He said he only became aware immediately before the start of the meeting that additional information members would need in order to reach a decision was missing from the report.

The report will now be resubmitted to the council in January.

He said he was also anxious the scheme should go ahead as soon as possible.

Officers suggest the whole site should be sold to Soha Housing association for an estimated £200,000, the valuation for affordable housing.

Soha would sell on part of the site to another housing association to build the bungalow.
