A team of prison officers has been presented with an award for its work with prisoners.

Staff from the segregation unit at Bullingdon Prison, near Bicester, travelled to Buckingham Palace to collect the award, which was presented by the Princess Royal.

The annual awards scheme, organised by the Butler Trust, recognises groups who have made an outstanding contribution to the care of prisoners.

The unit, which helps difficult and uncontrollable prisoners integrate back into regular prison life, was nominated for the award by Bullingdon's Board of Friends and governor Tony Bott. Unit officer Warren Greenslade said: "The princess asked us lots of interesting questions and was very well read on the topic. She was a breath of fresh air.

"The award is a credit to the people who have worked here over the years, it reflects their long-term commitment.

"The unit is potentially the most volatile part of the prison, but the relationship between staff and prisoners is very good."
