An Oxford street was transformed with painted banners, flags and art work to celebrate the beginning of the county Artweeks festival.
Divinity Road was closed to traffic for a street party to let the creative talents of people living in the area flow. People took part in modelling totem poles out of junk, tables were set up in the street with art materials and pavements were decorated with chalk pictures. There was also a workshop to make large objects for the East Oxford Carnival in June.

For artists to cool off in the warm weather, a large circular swimming pool was set up in the street and there was a bring your own barbecue.
The community art celebration was the first event of its kind. Banners used to decorate Divinity Road were made in a series of workshops in April and May.
Art Street was organised by the Divinity Road Area Residents' Association's Millennium group, which also arranged a New Year's Eve street party.
