Oxford University student William Straw, son of Home Secretary Jack Straw, has been fined £55 for taking part in a sit-in protest against student tuition fees.
William Straw, 20, who is studying politics, philosophy and economics at New College, has been ordered to pay the fine for unauthorised occupation of a university building and causing disruption to study.
The maximum penalty was £65. Failure to pay the fine could lead to expulsion from the university.
University proctors, who are responsible for student discipline, set up a court to reprimand 30 students involved in occupying the Divinity School in the Bodleian Library from February 7 to 11.
Mr Straw gave a speech in front of 300 students who took part in the protest against Oxford colleges' treatment of students who refuse to pay tuition fees.
The controversial policy of making students pay for their tuition was introduced by Labour in 1997.
