Ocean Colour Scene received a resounding reception on Sunday in Oxford, from an audience that included Oasis's Gallagher brothers and Nicole Appleton from All Saints.

The Birmingham band, who have earned a good living by imitating the Paul Weller sound, played a storming set to the Apollo crowd.

But a major gripe. The George Street venue is not the place for such a concert like this. I was sat in the circle, where people were constantly being warned for standing up and dancing.

The Apollo's policy on dancing is that as long as the aisles and walkways are kept clear and the majority of people wish to dance, then it is fine. If someone complains that their view is being obstructed then the offender is asked to sit down. From where I was sitting, in the circle, it seemed that anybody who attempted to dance was told not too. One person looked to be thrown out for repeat offending. An Apollo spokesman explained: "A patron chose to leave after the policy was explained to them. Nobody was forcibly removed from the premises."

The band's set included all the old favourites from the Moseley Shoals and Marchin' Already albums, plus tracks from their latest long player Mechanical Wonder.

Ocean Colour Scene play with a passion and more importantly enjoy what they are doing - something a lot of bands who have been around for as long as them seem to have lost. The Apollo crowd loved the music and the positive energy coming from the stage, but I think the band need to think a bit about choice of venue before coming to Oxford again. The Gallagher brothers and Nicole stayed around near the sound people at the mixer desk and later wandered around the foyer giving out autographs and signing pictures. They even left via the stage door handing out more autographs.

When people are paying good money to see their favourite band they should be allowed to dance to the music.
