Boss Brian Hughes will be holding crisis meetings every three days in a bid to keep to Witney Town alive.

Hughes has taken it upon himself to try and find somebody who will ensure the west Oxfordshire side do not fold, and called a meeting last night to try to find potential buyers.

Although no-one came forward, Hughes was pleased with the response he got and will now call more meetings and get straight on the phone to would-be buyers as his search continues.

"I wasn't expecting someone to come with a cheque book to buy the club last night," Hughes said.

"The thing to do now is have a meeting every three days or so to keep the thing going.

"Someone has got to take it on, and if things don't work out, it certainly won't be for the lack of trying - we've just got to keep hoping.

"The interest has been outstanding and we have had a number of phone calls from people, some of whom couldn't come to the meeting last night, and so now we have to get back on the phone to them and see what's happening."

Meanwhile, Witney supporters' group 1885 are to stage a sit-down protest outside Marriotts Stadium at the start of tomorrow's Eastern Division game against struggling Sittingbourne until 3.05pm to keep their campaign bubbling.

Town wait on the fitness of Steve Tavinor. He aggravated his hernia problem as Witney halted a run of four successive defeats with a 1-1 draw at Banbury United on Wednesday, but is expected to play.

Defender Kieron Sullivan faces a fitness test before Banbury United's Eastern Division encounter against Dartford at Purfleet in the Eastern Division.

Sullivan tweaked a hamstring in the midweek clash against Witney.
