Former boss Andy Lyne gave his backing to Witney Town supporters' attempts to save the club, by helping to carry the coffin they displayed before last night's Dr Martens Eastern Division clash at Banbury United.
Lyne was one of between 30-40 people who turned up to try to save Witney, after chief executive Brian Constable said the club would fold if nobody came forward to take over the club before the end of the season.
The protest on the Banbury terraces
Fans, dressed in black, carried a coffin behind one of the goals at Banbury Stadium and read out the club's history before the match.
"I think we made our point," said supporters' group leader Mark Reid.
"Banbury fans were right behind us, and this is just part of our aim to help save the club.
"We haven't got the money to put in, so we have to do all we can in other areas, and that mainly includes keeping it in the public eye."
Lyne, now manager of AFC Newbury, said: "They invited me along and I felt it was only right that I supported them because they had been very good to me over the years.
"A lot of people there are owed a lot and it can't be allowed to just slip away."
Tonight, a meeting called by Witney boss Brian Hughes will be held at Witney Lakes Golf Club (7.30) to try to find someone to take over the club.
The match ended 1-1.
