Compost expert Fay Dashper is touring garden centres to encourage people to play their part in improving the environment.

Fay, a graduate in countryside management, is working for Oxfordshire County Council on a one-year pilot scheme to encourage householders to compost garden waste at home.

Her next visit is to Hurran's garden centre, Banbury, on Saturday from 10.30am to 4.30pm, where she will be demonstrating cut-price home composters and answering questions on how to compost.

Organic kitchen and garden waste make up more than 30 per cent of the rubbish which householders throw away.

She can be contacted on the compost hotline on 01865 815281.
