Division 5 side AFC Blackbirds shocked high-flying Star Royal from the Morrells Oxford Sunday League Premier Division with a 2-1 victory in their midweek League Cup encounter.

Star paid the penalty for a lack-lustre performance, despite taking the lead via a Kevin Whelan own goal.

The same player redeemed himself with an equaliser, and with only ten minutes remaining, Dean Simms thumped home the winner. Blackbird keeper Darren Finch made the save of the game shortly afterwards to ensure the victory.

Star recovered from their cup shock to collect three points in a 3-2 win over Oxford Supporters at Romanway.

Danny Reilly gave Supporters the lead after 20 minutes, but Star levelled ten minutes later through Stuart Wise.

After the break, Ricky Barrett riffled home from an acute angle to put Star ahead, and after Supporters had equalised via a Rob Parsons own goal, substitute Steve Jenkins scored the winner with 15 minutes remaining.

Six Bells Kidlington found Blackbird Sunday too hot to handle despite taking a 1-0 lead through Mark Gall.

Blackbird replied through Carl Bloomfield, Stuart Armstrong, with a brace, including a penalty, and Trevor Hutt (2) in their 5-1 victory.

After a goalless first half, Highfield made use of the wind and slope to defeat a valiant Masons Arms 2-0, with both goals coming from Wayne Blossom.

Star Wanderers had the points snatched from them in the last ten minutes at home to Rose Hill.

Hill took the lead just before the break but Star levelled through Nigel Reading. Star's Jason Hunt saved a 75th-minute penalty but was unable to stop their winner in the closing minutes. Robbie Carlisle and Junior Ashley netted for Hill.

In Division 2, Oxford YMCA recorded another victory at Riverside, Andrew Maisey grabbing five and Michael Yearwood and substitute Mark Portman one each in a 7-2 scoreline.

Star Wanderers Res came away from White Horse with nothing after a 3-1 defeat as Andy Roberts grabbed a brace for Horse and Martin Norton headed over his own keeper to gift them an own goal.

Star's reply was rather more bizarre as the Horse keeper fired a clearance against Martin Batt's backside and the ball rebounded into the net!

Yarnton Village could muster only the bare 11 at home to North Oxford and paid the price, eventually losing 3-0.

Yarnton held fast until the second half when they were reduced to ten men through injury and North took full advantage to score through Steve Walker and Paul Bough (2), the second a superb volley .

Roebuck overcame Arncott 4-3 in a physical Division 4 encounter, resulting in several yellow cards and two sendings-off for second bookable offences.

After Mark Scanes had put away a penalty for Roebuck, Arncott struck back through Chris McMillan and Gary Lawton.

Roebuck regained the lead at 3-2 before Matt Todd levelled by the break. By this time, Arncott had been reduced to ten men and although keeper Kevin Harrison made a series of fine saves, he couldn't prevent Roebuck's winner.

In Division 5, North Oxford CC Res took all three points with a 5-3 win in a lively encounter with AFC Porto.

Nolan Aselford (3), Darren Wright and Mark Rawlings netted for North Oxford, with Russell and Cook replying.
