The final fixtures of the Oxford & District League season saw players hoping to hang on to their unbea- ten individual records.

In Division 2, Crown House B's Mark Newns almost came unstuck at the final hurdle.

Glenn Stiffle

Playing against Kevin Giles of Gladiators in his last league match of the season, he lost the first set and only managed to get through a nail-biting second 22-20.

However, he made no mistake in the third set to ensure his undefeated record rem- ained intact, winning all his 45 games played in his first season in Oxford.

Another player who rem- ained unbeaten was Paul Borrowdale, of Vikings D in Division 3. He finished the season against Kidlington Forum F with his 17th maximum. However, his efforts did not quite secure promotion for his team as they lost out by just a single point.

Another undefeated player was City junior Stuart Hamilton, who won all his games very comfortably in Division 4. He must surely be looking to play Division 2 next season to fulfil his talent.

*OXFORDSHIRE Veterans 3rd completed their season with an exciting 5-4 win over Berkshire.

Chris Lansley won his two singles and the mixed doubles. Supporting wins by Tony Wheeler and Anne Borrowdale ensured a deserved victory.

*OXFORD defeated Nuneaton 9-1 in the Midland League at Kidlington in a match which was closer than the score suggests.

Gary Pickford (St James) lost the first set 24-22 in the third after which a further seven sets went to the deciding third game. Karl Bushell (Forum) and Mark Newns (Crown House), making his debut, both won their three sets.
