Glowing praise has been heaped on a nursery school by a team of inspectors.

Grandpont Nursery School, in Whitehouse Road, Oxford, has no weaknesses, according to the team from Ofsted.

Standards in all areas of learning are well above average, teaching is consistently good and frequently excellent and the headteacher Elaine Smith leads the state-run nursery well, said the report.

It added that children had good attitudes to the nursery and their behaviour is excellent.

Provision for youngsters with special educational needs was excellent and the community played an exceptional role in the children's learning, according to inspectors.

Sue Fischer, chairman of the governors, said she had never known an Ofsted team to say there were no weaknesses and she was thrilled with the report.

She said the recipe of the nursery's success was learning through play. She added: "Learning through play involves a fantastic amount of skill and planning and they monitor the children very, very closely.

"We do not exclude children. This is a great thumbs up for education in Oxford."

Julie Fisher, Early Years Adviser for Oxfordshire County Council, said: "This is an outstanding inspection report. Grandpont Nursery School offers the highest quality educational experiences to its children. Anyone wanting to see what can be achieved by dynamic and confident young learners should visit this nursery school."
