Oxford Sports B got off to the best possible start in their bid to bounce back up to the top flight, beating Banbury West End 6-3 in the opening match in Ladies Division 2 of the Wilson Inter-Club 3-pair League.

West End, back in the 3-pair league after a brief stay in the 2-pair section, were swept aside by Sports, despite 2 rubbers from their first pair of Claire Oldfield and Sue Jelfs.

Sports, relegated last year, produced an all-round team performance, led by 2 rubbers from Gillian Pearson and Alison Clayton.

In Division 1, North Oxford A got to the magical five just before the rain came in their match against Woodstock, running out 5-1 victors.

In the 2-pair league, Hanney, an unknown quantity, having entered the league for the first time, got off to the perfect start, beating Watlington B 4-0 in Men's Division 3.

Adrian Noke and John Culley, and Geoff Smith and Tom Bradshaw dropped just 15 games in their eight sets.

In Division 1, Chinnor beat Oxford City 3-, with the first pair of Richard Howlett and Philip Waller unbeaten.
