Traders and residents are being invited to grill experts on plans to build a £20m shopping development in their town.

Architects, retail analysts and highways and property development consultants are taking part in a public exhibition in Wantage to answer questions over the Limborough Road development.

The two-day exhibition in Wantage Civic Hall is being organised by development consultant Bushbuy - based in Limborough Road.

A model will show the lay-out of the 11-acre site. The model, designed by BHP Architects in Mill Street, Wantage, shows the relative sizes of the planned stores and the position of roads and car parks.

The development will see a new Sainsbury's store, seven small shops and six superstores.

The project has taken more than 20 years to get this far. Next month, detailed plans will be submitted to the Vale of White Horse District Council.

A second exhibition is being planned for June, coinciding with the start of the clearance of the site.

Bill Atkinson, managing director of Bushbuy, said: "People will be able to wander in and look at the model and have things explained. We will show people what we are doing, answer questions, and allay any misgivings or fears. If people haven't seen the model it is difficult to understand what is happening.

"It will be of interest to shopkeepers and people living in close proximity to the site, who wish to see how this may or may not impact on them."

The exhibition is open on Thursday, April 26, noon to 4pm, and 6pm to 7.30pm, and on Friday, April 27, 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 4.30pm.
