The "old shantytown" in a village is to get a major facelift.
Members of South Oxfordshire District Council northern area planning committee gave the go-ahead for extensive work at The Old Bakery in Rectory Road, Great Haseley, near Thame.
They approved plans to refurbish the main house and adapt the listed Old Bakery building, linking the two buildings with a glazed walkway. A rear extension, a cottage in the grounds, and dilapitated buildings at the rear will also be demolished.
Next-door neighbour David Marsden backed the plan and told committee members: "The Old Bakery is so run down it is called The Old Shantytown by villagers."
Opposition to the design of the new two-storey building was outvoted.
