An Oxfordshire firm is mapping every street in western Europe on to a computer database - and extending eastward to countries like Poland and the Czech Republic.

Lovell Johns Ltd, based at Long Hanborough's Business Park, plans to meet the growing demand for interactive maps.

The company produces maps for clients across the world, with a variety of uses, from the individual motorist wanting to plan a route, through to city authorities needing blueprints for works like street light repairs.

It is now taking on two new senior executives to spearhead its new drive for the pan-European enterprise.

They are Serge Van Eyck, 31, who will co-ordinate the project, including work for the European Commission, and Gill Dickson, 40, the new e-business director.

She was recently sales and marketing director of electronic education publisher Attica Interactive in Oxford.

Lovell Johns is a division of the South African media group Johnnic Communications and has a long track record in the provision of mapping services.

Since 1994, it has held the contract for production of the official maps of the European Union.
