A motorcyclist died following an accident with a car in Minster Lovell, near Witney.

He was named as Ian Jackson, 43, of Marlborough Crescent, Long Hanborough.

His Yamaha motorcycle and a Renault Megane people carrier collided on Sunday outside the White Hart pub, on the B4047 Burford Road near the junction with the Brize Norton Road.

Mr Jackson was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with serious injuries, but was certified dead at the hospital.

David Riddy, landlord of the White Hart, said the crash happened as he was opening up. "We heard a bang and ran out," he said.

He called the emergency services and talked to the injured motorcyclist until they arrived.

The road was closed for two hours. Police were on the scene until around 4pm investigating the cause of the smash.

The 64-year-old Renault driver was discharged from hospital after being treated for shock.
