A student stopped by police for having a faulty light on his car was almost three times over the drink-drive limit, magistrates heard.
Michael Prowse, of Oxford Road, Frilford Heath, admitted driving with excess alcohol in Abingdon on April 2. Sabeeha Khan, defending, said the19-year-old Oxford Brookes University student had not intended to drive, but decided to go to a garage when he ran out of cigarettes.
Sabeeha Khan, defending, said Prowse had spent the day with a friend "when he had three or four beers with lunch, another three or four drinks playing pool and drank cocktails at a night club".
Didcot magistrates remanded him on unconditional bail, pending sentencing on May 10.
They imposed an interim disqualification because of the high breath test reading - 90 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
The legal limit is 35 micrograms.
