THE biggest pike ever caught in England - a massive specimen weighing 45lbs 15oz - has been captured by an Oxford angler from a local water, writes PETER STONE.

Daren Willingham, 27, from Summer-town, was pike-fishing at a trout lake near Witney and had a day he will never forget.

He started the ball rolling at 10am with a fish weighing 22.4.0, followed by an even bigger fish weighing 28.10.0 which picked up his legered herring bait. Then at 3pm, the record English pike paid him as visit. To land the monster, Daren used 12lb line and No 6 semi-barbless trebles.

Daren caught 17 pike and he lost another fish which looked as big as his record-breaker.
