YEMI Odubade says he is desperate to prove he can cut it as a Football League player after Brian Talbot gave him a second stab at it this week.

"I'm very excited, I never thought I'd get a second chance," said the former Eastbourne Borough player, who ended his spell at Yeovil last season to be closer to his girlfriend in Sussex.

His display in the FA Cup replay at the Kassam Stadium in November caught everyone's eye, and he said: "I'd been here with Yeovil and I like the ground and the pitch.

"As soon as I knew I was going to be playing here again with Eastbourne I was confident I'd be able to do well again, and that was probably the best game I've played.

"I know this is a bigger club than Yeovil, though. The manager says he's got faith in me and he wants me to play as a second striker."

He has helped Eastbourne Borough climb away from the threat of relegation.

"I've scored three goals since the Oxford game, then had a bit of a hamstring injury and have been out for three weeks.

"But I was doing weights at the start of the week and trained yesterday and it was fine."

Odubade confessed he didn't need long to think over whether to pack in his job as a delivery driver.

"I knew that if I went through the process of handing my notice in and all that, I'd have to give a month's notice - so I just quit!"
