Members of the Sikh community are very upset and concerned about the attack on Rattandeep Singh Ahluwalia (Oxford Mail, May 31).
Taking the turban off a Sikh's head is similar to taking off someone's head from his body. The turban is part of Sikh dress and is a symbol of his glory, pride and honour. Asking a Sikh to walk across the road without his turban is like asking a woman to walk naked across the road. These sorts of incidents won't be tolerated by the Sikh community.
This is a very serious racial issue and should be dealt with very carefully by police. Officers should be made aware of all aspects of religions. Racial attacks are getting worse in Oxford.
This is a multicultural city, with foreigners from all over the world.
These types of incidents will affect overseas students and residents of Oxford who play a very important role.
