Sir, As a resident of Horspath, I must protest. We recently won the battle to keep our railway bridge, thankfully, which acts as a traffic restrictor in the village and this has been augmented by chicanes and speed bumps in various locations.

However, since the traffic chaos started at Green Road roundabout our village, as with others too, has become a complete rat-run. Gone is the peace of living in the country and bird song to wake us, our mornings now start with a constant stream of traffic hammering past the windows at excessive speed.

Rights of way are being ignored and I have witnessed on several occasions accidents that have been about as close to happening as is possible without actually happening! I feel for the families on the Cuddesdon Road, they must be living in fear of potential disaster sooner or later though a serious accident will happen.

Drivers are using our village as a race track, they have no regard for anything and simply ignore all attempts to get them to slow down unless that is to throw yet another drinks can, newspaper or discarded meal on to our verges.

I understand the need to get from A to B, but surely those affected must be taken into consideration by the powers that be?

Why are there no speed cameras in obvious places, even on a temporary basis, and where are the police when you need them?

Our quality of life has taken a dramatic turn for the worse, the traffic is a nightmare, the rubbish is unacceptable and sooner or later there will be a serious accident . . . the irony is though that when it happens the ambulance probably won't be able to get through!
