OXFORDSHIRE County Council last night denied it had received formal notification from a hospital trust of a £10,000 fine for bed-blocking.

The Royal Berkshire Hospital said some of its Oxfordshire patients could have been discharged earlier, but were remaining on wards because of a lack of care places.

The hospitals trust said it would backdate the £10,000 charges to April.

County spokesman Marcus Mabberley said: “We have not received a formal notification of a fine from the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

“We are working to address delayed transfers of care at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.”
