SHOPPERS in East Oxford where surprised to be invited to an impromptu performance by a hit band today.

Members of The Magic Numbers turned up to help launch a new record shop – which will stay open just for the weekend.

Brother and sister Romeo and Michele Stodart, and bandmate Angela Gannon delighted passers-by with a live set in the Guerilla music shop, which occupies the old Videosyncratic store in Cowley Road.

The Mercury Music prize nominated musicians performed a selection of their best-loved tunes including chart hits Forever Lost and Love Me Like You at the store – which has been set up as part of East Oxford’s OX4 Festival. The festival will see a range of international and local bands playing at 10 Cowley Road venues tonight. The record store will wind up tomorrow with a closing down sale.

Festival spokesman Drew Brammer said: “Everyone loved it. People were wandering in from the street to see what was going on. It was brilliant to see so many faces in a brand new shop and the perfect way to OX4.”
