A spirited Steventon team were always struggling to get back on terms after AFCB exploded out of the traps scoring 3 times within the first 15 minutes. Dellan Thornton started the goal rush inside five minutes when he had a simple tap in at the back post after Joe Webber had opened up the Steventon defence with a penetrating dribble from the right.

Webber grabbed the second a few minutes later shooting across the goal from right to left into the far post after a fine solo run.

The challenge for Steventon was raised still further half way through the second half when AFCB were awarded a penalty and Thornton showed great composure driving the ball hard to the keeper’s bottom right.

Steventon continued to battle and although they ocassionally got behind the AFCB defence, which was without captain Dominic Booth injured during the warm up, they couldn’t make the pressure count. Steventon’s best chance of the first half came from the penalty spot but Finn Beckett stood tall in the Brightwell goal as the strike whistled past his left hand post.

Brightwell finished the half stronger and when Joe Morris arrived late in the box from midfield and slammed in a fourth just before the whistle the result looked set.

Steventon clearly had other ideas though and they showed determination as AFCB struggled to settle using 4 substitutes and losing Jordon Blake with a fractured wrist.

Even though Webber grabbed a fifth goal for AFCB half way through the second half it was Steventon who finished the stronger and Charlie Brant netted twice to lift the visitors before the final whistle.

Notable contributions elsewhere came from the Steventon goalkeeper and AFCB stand in skipper, George Turner who battled for every ball and gave a great display of distribution from the centre of the park.
