With more than 50 extra-curricular activities taking place each week, there is something for every student at Headington School. Activities span every imaginable school subject — from art, acting and astronomy to the Duke of Edinburgh Award, debating and fencing.

Many girls join the thriving Combined Cadet Force and others take part in the exciting World Challenge programme.

The English department is bursting with literary talent especially amongst some of our sixth formers who are already published poets! The arts play a central role in school life, with the spectacular art department and professional theatre providing a wealth of opportunities for girls to explore their creativity.

Budding entrepreneurs hone their skills in our ‘Run Your Own Company’ contest and imaginative fundraisers organise concerts, fashion shows, cake sales and two of our students have established a thriving eco-friendly tea company.

It is important to us to balance the high academic achievement of our students, with the process of learning beyond the classroom.

Musicians excel in the state-of-the-art Music School, which houses professional recording studios, teaching spaces for individuals and small ensembles as well as performance spaces which include an outdoor amphitheatre.

Headington’s thriving music department already delivers more than 400 individual lessons per week, in more than 20 instruments, with more than half the school participating in one of our numerous ensembles that range from quartets to the 45-strong Chamber Choir, which regularly performs in venues all over the world.

The Theatre at Headington offers our thespians a professionally equipped theatre which provides an extraordinary range of opportunities to feed a passion for the stage.

In addition to curricular drama, we offer a broad range of activities in which all students can be involved.

There are a number of school productions throughout the year, both student and teacher led; a bi-annual house drama competition, a junior drama club, residential courses in Europe and touring performance opportunities such as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

For those keen on sport, the school boasts 23 acres of grounds and playing fields, tennis courts, swimming pool and a floodlit Astroturf pitch all of which provide top-class facilities for the school’s sportswomen. We offer a myriad of sporting opportunities from fencing, equestrianism and netball to cheerleading, judo, hockey and athletics. Headington’s rowing team has a glittering track record, competing against top national and international teams — two of our Sixth Form rowers won gold for Great Britain in the Singapore Youth Olympics last year.

In addition, we offer a very active programme of lunchtime and after school clubs, including Astronomy, Game Maker club, Yoga and a Literary Society. So, whatever your daughter’s talent, she will find the support and confidence that she needs to succeed at Headington.

Open events at Headington provide a great opportunity for prospective pupils and their parents to experience the school for themselves. Families tour the school, meet staff and girls and attend talks and Q&A sessions with the headmistress.

Headington open events always take place during the school day, allowing visitors to see lessons in action and soak up the school’s vibrant atmosphere.

Join us for the next open event on Thursday, March 24. Visit the website www.headington.org to book your place and find out more.
