A disabled Oxford couple have urged vandals to leave them alone after being woken up twice by having bricks thrown through their windows.

Peter Jordan, of Prunus Close, Blackbird Leys, said: “I sleep downstairs near the front window, and on both occasions the glass nearly smashed all over me.”

The 64-year-old, who lives with wife Margaret, 58, and stepson John Jordan, 25, called police following the attacks during the early hours of last Tuesday and Thursday.

He said: “My wife has arthritis and has had a major knee operation. We are both registered disabled and I sleep downstairs.

“I was sleeping underneath the window at the time and fortunately the bricks only broke the outer skin of the double glazing and didn’t come through into the room.”

Mr Jordan, a former city council glazier, said he did not know why the three-bedroom council home was being targeted, but is appealing for the attacks to stop.

He added: “The first time it happened a 6ft by 4ft window was damaged. On the second occasion it was a 2ft by 4ft.

“In the first attack they used a 2ft-long coping stone and the second time it was an engineering brick. If one of them had landed on me I could have been seriously hurt.

“I am my wife’s carer, so I cannot let anything happen to me. We have lived here for about 16 years and all we want is a peaceful life.”

Mrs Jordan added: “It was terrifying to be woken up in the night and now I am not sleeping. I feel as if I am being driven out of my own home.”

Sgt Rob Axe, from Thames Valley Police’s Blackbird Leys neighbourhood team, said: “We are treating this matter very seriously and an investigation is on-going to discover who is responsible.

“I would urge anyone with information to contact the neighbourhood team as soon as possible so that we can catch those responsible.

“The team will be stepping up patrols in the area and I would ask any residents who have concerns to approach us and speak to us about these.”

Louisa Dean, a spokesman for Oxford City Council, said: “We have been in contact with these residents and we have ensured the property is safe.”
