I UNDERSTAND from Vale of White Horse District Council that, as of April this year, there were still more than 2,700 active people and families on their housing waiting list.

This is despite the fact that over the past two years the council has been successful in facilitating the completion of more than 370 units of social/affordable housing.

The proposed development of 1,500 homes in Grove would realise at least 600 units of social/affordable housing at the 40 per cent target level, and appears to me to be the best way of making major inroads into the waiting list.

However, the new Conservative Vale administration in its manifesto talked of reviewing the Grove development.

Matthew Barber, leader of the council, assured me verbally on May 6 that this review would be carried out without any preconceived conclusions.

I would therefore ask that this review is done quickly, and I hope that the outcome is that the Grove development proceeds so that the council can continue to show that it has the provision of social/affordable housing for its residents as a high priority.
