A WEEK of science activities at a Witney primary school launched with a big bang yesterday.
Youngsters at Witney Community School in Hailey Road spent the day learning about light in a giant science dome.
Science presenter Louis Pearson, pictured, of Bristol-based Explorer Dome, said: “It is about inspiring kids to think differently about science.
“It is a hands-on approach so kids can engage with it, rather than just sitting in the classroom and being told about it.”
Year Three teacher Mark Conway said: “We have a whole week of activities using light, forces and rockets. It is basically wall-to-wall science all week.
“It is all about exciting them, to get them interested in science. It is shock-and-awe tactics.
“The kids are really enthusiastic and really excited about it.”
The events will feature talks by Oxford Brookes University lecturers.
Parents have helped fund the project and some of the lecturers have donated their time for free.
