A MAN and woman were fighting for their lives in hospital last night after a head-on crash on the A420 near Faringdon at the weekend.

The pair, who are believed to be married, were flown to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital following the crash at Littleworth at about 4.30pm on Saturday.

Thames Valley Police spokesman Chris Kearney said: “They are still in a critical condition at the hospital.”

The driver of the other vehicle suffered severe injuries and was also taken to the hospital. Their condition was not known.

The A420 was closed to traffic in both directions until Saturday evening.

The collision was one of a number on Oxfordshire’s roads in the past few days.

Yesterday, a Volkswagen Golf flipped on to its roof at the Tubney Green roundabout on the A420 at about 6am. Its two occupants suffered minor injuries.

And four people were taken to the JR after an accident involving an lorry and two cars on the northbound carriageway of the A4142 Oxford Eastern Bypass, close to Rose Hill, at around 5.30pm on Saturday. Their condition was not thought to be serious.

On Friday, five people had to be cut free from a car which was damaged when it crashed into the central reservation on the A34 between Chilton and Didcot.

Four of the people in the car were released from hospital on the same day, while an eight-year-old boy was kept in overnight after being diagnosed with concussion.

He was discharged the following day after treatment.
