AN OXFORD dad has won his battle against Oxfordshire County council’s planned funding cuts for his severely disabled daughter.

Jacques Lauruol, from Rose Hill, has reversed a proposed 50 per cent cut in the care budget for Marie, 29, who has lived at a specialist facility in Bristol for 10 years.

It was cut by 11 per cent in September, reducing one-to-one care from 22.5 to 15 hours, and bosses proposed a 50 per cent reduction. This raised fears she would move to a cheaper facility.

It took months for Mr Lauruol, 56, of Jersey Road, with support from national charities including Mencap, to quash the plans. Marie has multiple and profound learning difficulties.

He said: “What is really striking is social services seems to be systematically working against the people they are meant to help. It is money first, then the needs come after, which is pretty hard to take.”

He said the council had not done enough to challenge Government cuts. “It is disgusting that the council is targeting the most vulnerable people,” he said.

He added: “We are asking people who took no part in the current economic crisis to pay for problems created by others.”

Mr Lauruol is calling on others who have been hit by cuts to challenge them and is lobbying to reverse the 11 per cent cut.

Council spokesman Marcus Mabberley said: “Miss Lauruol’s personal budget has been set at a level which is determined by an assessment of her needs.

“Other people with similar levels of need are successfully meeting their needs within their budget allocation.”
