Sir – It is exactly as I prophesied — the ‘Mr Gray’ character has been resurrected, I assume by popular demand (June 9).
The new character has excelled itself with the piece on Garsington Opera, reaching ever-new heights. I particularly enjoyed the episode where he stands outside the lavatories spotting famous people.
I could not spot ‘Mr Gray’ in the photograph. But this, of course, does not prove that this fictional character does not exist.
I myself once crossed Baker Street in the company of ‘Sherlock Holmes’, deerstalker and all, during a visit to the eponymous museum. ‘Sherlock’ was heading to a nearby pub to take full advantage of his rest break. No Garsington ‘Sicilian-style aubergine stew’ for him. Great stuff, and congratulations to the writers!
