COAST presenter Nick Crane dropped in to an Oxford book store to launch a new atlas for young people.
Mr Crane, pictured with seven-year-old Jonathan Clayden, has written Barefoot Books World Atlas, which is illustrated by David Dean, and he launched the book with a talk on Saturday at the Barefoot Books studio and community centre in Banbury Road, Summertown.
More than 20 people turned up for the TV presenter’s talks about his travels.
Jonathan’s dad Philip Clayden, 44, from Dorchester, said: “Jonathan thought it was very funny when Nick Crane said he had tried to open a tin of sardines in the Alps with a pick-axe.”
Mr Crane said the book was an atlas for the next generation of discovers, and said: “To share the excitement, the wonder, the complexity of life on an orbiting planet, you need an atlas.”
Barefoot Books events manager Fiona Ross said: “The children who came along really enjoyed Nick’s talk.
“He brought lots of things with him from his travels, including hats, snowshoes and a tin of sardines.”
