TOP Oxford music acts including Young Knives and former Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes are to play at a rotunda which used to house the dolls collection of the wife of novelist Graham Greene.

Vivien Greene lived at Grove House in Iffley Turn, Oxford, for more than 50 years until she died in 2003.

For many years the rotunda housed Mrs Greene's collection of dolls before she sold some of them in 1998 when she could no longer look after them.

Eighteenth century Grove House was bought by Polly McLean in 2004 and is now used for cultural events, with the rotunda rented out as a venue for concerts.

Next month it will be filled with about 70 music fans each night for the Three Nights at the Rotunda shows.

Young Knives play on Wednesday, December 7, Richard Walters on Thursday, December 8, and Gaz Coombes on Friday, December 9.

It is being organised by pop-up restaurant OxFork and record label Beard Museum.

Singer-songwriter Mr Walters, 29, who works part-time at the OxFork cafe in Magdalen Road, East Oxford, said: “We got the idea for these concerts after OxFork put on a Graham Greene-themed evening here in the summer.

“People wore ’40s dress for dinner and passages were read from Graham Greene novels.

“Afterwards, we thought the space inside the rotunda was so bizarre, beautiful and innovative that it would be perfect for acoustic music.

“Each act will play for about 45 minutes to an hour and as it is getting near Christmas we will do some seasonal food from the café including mince pies and mulled wine.”

Mr Walters, 29, has released two albums, Animal and Pacing, and is working on a third.

Support acts will include Cat Matador, Family Machine, Ed Laurie, Message to Bears, Spring Offensive and Matthew P.
