Wantage's youngsters are getting to grips with the town’s past by putting together a history trail.

Featuring installations around the Market Square, they hope it will allow locals to discover the heritage they didn’t know the town had.

Five volunteers aged between 16 and 25 put the trail together after a trip to The Vale and Downland Museum. People can now pick up a custom-made map and walk around the town.

Rebecca Ritchie-Timms, who works for the Oxfordshire Youth Arts Partnership and dreamt up the project – pictured centre with participants Hayley Blanshard-Whitton, left, and Roisin Atkin – said: “People use the buildings in the town centre every day but this is about bringing things to the surface.

“We are celebrating Wantage and reconnecting young people with their heritage.”

The trail opened at the beginning of the month.

Maps can be collected at The Vale and Downland Museum and at Harpers estate agents until Sunday, December 4.
