ABINGDON: Lead thieves stripped 20 metres of metal worth thousands of pounds from the roof of Abingdon Baptist Church.

The Ock Street church was targeted between 3pm on Sunday and 8am on Monday, police said.

Thieves ripped the lead – some of which has been there for 160 years – from the rear of the church roof and caused damage to a fence and tiles.
