IT is noted in the Oxford Mail (November 21), ‘No, no, no to city CPZ’, that the county highway bosses want to create a single controlled parking zone covering the whole of Oxford.
It is hoped they will spare a thought for surrounding villages, which are already becoming inundated with on-street parking problems caused by commuters to the city.
Commuters are being driven out – they now prefer to park their car in a village street by a bus stop to catch a premium, or other efficient bus service, rather than queue for a park and ride, or use another mode of less-congesting transport.
From the parish council’s objections to the North Oxford parking zones in the 1990s, the County Environment Committee recommended their officers monitor and address any on-street parking problems that resulted.
Despite many complaints, we are still waiting for this promise to be honoured.
CARL SMITH, Clerk to Gosford and Water Eaton Parish Council, Cromwell Way, Gosford
