THE winner of Oxford’s biggest talent competition has realised her dream of releasing a CD.

Fifteen-year-old Eleanor Williams stormed to victory in Talent Oxford in June with her rendition of Puccini’s O Mio Babbino Caro.

Since then, the wannabe opera singer has wowed hundreds with her powerful voice at concerts around the county.

The schoolgirl from Uffington said: “This is what I’ve wanted my whole life, I want to perform every day.

“When I first saw the CD I couldn’t believe it. It was so exciting to think it was something I’d made myself.”

Eleanor, who attends Highworth Warneford School in Swindon, first started singing when she was cast as Mary in a primary school nativity play.

Her grandmother Doris Gomersall was a famous opera singer and her great-great-aunt Essie Gomersall sang for the Queen.

Eleanor said: “This is all I’ve ever wanted to do, really. I loved being able to get into a recording studio for the first time.

“I spent about four weeks in the studios over my summer holidays. And now I’ve had 50 copies made as a first batch and all my friends and family are buying them.”

The £4 CD Shine contains four tracks and 50p from every sale will be given to the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

The tracks are Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush, Pie Jesu, Ivor Novello’s Waltz of My Heart and My All by Mariah Carey.

She said: “It’s a bit of a mix really. The funny thing was the last song I recorded was Wuthering Heights and it only took a few goes.

“And now I think that’s the best one on the whole CD.”

As well as beating competition from 64 others at Talent Oxford, Eleanor has also won the Highfield area heat for Talent Swindon.

The CD she has just made was her prize for winning her Talent Swindon heat.

She has also performed at the The Grand Macmillan Annual Show in Didcot alongside X Factor star Danyl Johnson and at the Smile event in Swindon.

She said: “It’s been a fantastic few months since I won the contest.

“This is my first CD, I’ll always have that now and hopefully it will be the first of many. I’m now going to be sending it off to agencies in London, that’s my dream.

“It would be just amazing if any of them would hear it.”
