CUDDLING a massive goat is all in the line of duty for Oxford’s Lord Mayor.

Elise Benjamin met Oxfam mascot Archie the Goat on Thursday outside the charity’s first shop in Broad Street, as Oxford was celebrated as the most generous city in the UK.

Archie and his new-found friend unwrapped the shop, which had been covered in Christmas paper as part of the celebrations.

The 8ft-tall mascot is touring the country to promote Oxfam Unwrapped Christmas presents.

Oxford residents have spent a record £1m buying life-changing charity gifts, including safe drinking water and trained teachers, over the last eight years.

Ms Benjamin said: “To know that Oxford is one of the most generous places in the whole of the UK is a wonderful early Christmas gift and I’m extremely proud that we have topped Oxfam’s poll.”

Oxfam Unwrapped Christmas gifts include goats, farmyards, bore holes and health workers for communities around the world.
