A DECISION on plans to redevelop a disused block of social housing in Oxford looks set to be made next week.

City councillors will decide whether to allow the building of flats and houses on the site of Grantham House in Cranham Street, Jericho.

The application, by Iconic Strategic Asset Fund, has been recommended for approval.

Grantham House used to be home to the elderly but has been unoccupied since 2007 when the city council marketed the property for £2.75m.

Developers have applied for permission to knock down the current building and replace it with two three-bedroom semi-detached houses and seven flats, which of three will have one bedroom, three will have three bedrooms and one will have two bedrooms.

The planning officer’s report said: “The development makes a more efficient use of a brownfield site which is within an existing residential area and sustainable location. The proposal offers a good balance and mix of dwelling types and sizes... and would secure a financial contribution towards affordable housing.”

In March, councillors delayed a decision on the redevelopment after confusion over financial contributions.

But in the latest report, officers said 15 per cent of the projected sale value had now been received from the developers.

A decision will be made at the city council’s west area planning committee at the Town Hall on Wednesday at 6pm.
