HUNDREDS of people turned out in Burford to mark the 38th annual Levellers Day.

The event celebrates the anniversary of the execution of three leveller soldiers shot in Burford churchyard on May 17, 1649. The Levellers were a soldiers who pressed for civil rights and religious tolerance and rebelled against Oliver Cromwell.

Organiser Des Brambley said: β€œIt was a very well attended event and the weather held off, and it went without a hitch.”

A parade from Warwick Hall went through the town, pictured, and more than 230 ticket holders were treated to talks, live music and stand-up comedy.
