AFTER years of walking the beat, Davina Logan, pictured, is looking forward to a slightly more leisurely stroll when she takes part in this year’s Walk on the Wild Side.

Former police officer Mrs Logan, 55, is asking people to join her in the second annual charity walk at picturesque Wittenham Clumps, from 11am on Sunday July 1.

The Walk on the Wild Side is a sponsored walk for all the family in aid of Age UK Oxfordshire and the Earth Trust.

Wittenham Clumps in south Oxfordshire are named after the two clumps of beech trees which crown Castle Hill and Round Hill – the oldest known planted hilltop beeches in England, dating back more than 300 years.

The Walk on the Wild Side gives people of all ages the chance to explore them while meeting like-minded people, including the faces behind the charities, such as Mrs Logan, a former police commander for West and South Oxfordshire, who is now a trustee of Age UK. She said: “This really is a wonderful walk. Last year we had people of all ages and abilities, from the elderly, to little ones in buggies.”

Mrs Logan worked for Thames Valley Police for 15 years, first as a patrol officer and later as area commander based in Witney.

She said: “The Walk on the Wild Side raises valuable funds for the charities but is also a great opportunity for people to come together, appreciate their environment and share a wonderful walk in one of the county’s most beautiful spots.”

This year’s walk starts at 11am at the Earth Trust Centre in Little Wittenham. Walkers can choose from two routes, of five or eight kilometres. Entry is £5 per adult, £2.50 per child. Adults are asked to raise sponsorship of at least £30.
