CHIPPING Norton School has been given the thumbs up by Ofsted inspectors just weeks after the school converted to an academy.

The school, which has more than 1,000 pupils, was visited by inspectors on April 25 and 26, having converted to an academy on March 1.

And the school was given a good overall rating, with headteacher Simon Duffy singled out for particular praise.

Inspector Simon Rowe said: “Under the outstanding leadership of the headteacher, ably supported by his senior leadership team, the school has implemented many initiatives which have raised achievement, the quality of teaching and the standard of behaviour.

“The headteacher shows a great determination for the school to become outstanding.

“The senior leadership team model these high expectations, as do many middle leaders.”

Mr Rowe also pointed out behaviour had improved and the number of exclusions reduced significantly.

Areas for improvement included increasing the proportion of good and outstanding teaching, and strengthening leadership and management.
