A BEER and music festival this weekend will help Oxford’s Helen & Douglas House hospice.

Rokefest, at the Home Sweet Home pub, in Roke, near Benson, will feature 13 local bands, along with a selection of 20 real ales on tap at the bar and a barbecue.

The event starts on Friday and runs until Sunday.

Last year Rokefest raised £3,600 for the hospice, and musicians will again give their time for free to support the cause.

Organiser Jo Chapman said: “We’re really pleased that Rokefest will continue to entertain people for its ninth year. Last year’s festival was really successful.”

The money raised at the event will be spent on taking young adults cared for at the hospice to major music festivals.

Helen & Douglas House fundraiser Janet Carruzzo said: “Music is so important for those who stay with us.

“It brings so much joy and happiness, whether it is in the music room or sensory room.

“We also take some of our young adults to pop festivals like Glastonbury and Womad.

“With our specialised medical support, they can stay and enjoy the whole festival experience.”
