I HAD the misfortune to watch the Home Secretary’s meeting with the Police Federation and I was shocked and dismayed at the conduct of some of the delegates.

Many acted and spoke in a manner which left me wondering how they managed to get into the police in the first place.

They called for her resignation and said she was a disgrace and yet Teresa May was acting responsibly in trying to reduce police waste, and to cut their budget by 20 per cent was no more than other public services were having to suffer.

They strutted around saying that she was destroying the best police service in the world but if their standard of behaviour was anything to go by, I would strongly argue the point.

Why don’t they put their brains into gear before speaking?

The whole of Europe is in a financial mess and cuts have to be made to rectify the matter.

Do they really think that the Home Secretary was deliberately trying to undermine the service?

Of course she was not and in truth this Government would, as would every political party, love to be in a position where they could afford a police service that would make us all safe in our houses.

However, if they continue to recruit men of the same calibre as those who spoke so disgracefully against the Home Secretary, I think that position will be a long way off.
