A GRIEVING husband wiped away his tears as he gave evidence about the hours leading up to his wife’s death.

Mehmet Sahin broke down in the dock at Oxford Crown Court yesterday as his police statement was read to the jury during the trial of his son-in-law Ensar Gol.

Gol is charged with murdering Julie Sahin, 50, her daughter Michala Gol, 28, and attempting to murder their 20-year-old friend Casey Wilson.

Mr Sahin said he wished his son-in-law was “dead”, and his wife had described him as a “psycho”.

The court heard Gol, a 22-year-old Turkish national had been told of his grandfather’s death just hours before he returned to the home he shared with his parents-in-law, wife and their two children in Ireton Court, Thame, at 2am on September 4. Dafydd Enoch, prosecuting, alleged Gol took a kitchen knife and killed his wife and mother-in-law in a frenzied stabbing in which Miss Wilson was also seriously injured.

Gol denies all charges.

The jury heard that in his statement to police Mr Sahin, who is also from Turkey, said: “I feel lost, the only thing keeping me going on are the kids and their welfare.

“I want Ensar to be dead in the worst possible way.

“I cannot think. Having lost my family and not being able to be with them in the same way ever again will hurt me.”

Mr Sahin told the court his wife did not like her son-in-law and did not approve of his marriage to her daughter.

He said the problems first started when she was on holiday with Gol and her daughter in Turkey.

She had intervened when the pair began arguing in the early hours of the morning.

Mr Sahin said: “Julie tried to calm it down.

“She mentioned that Ensar raised his hand to Julie, and at that point she must have sensed something, and she carried on (saying) that he was a psycho.

“I didn’t want to believe her – because it happens to everyone if you’re a little bit angry.”

Mr Sahin was then asked about the night of his wife’s death when Gol arrived at his workplace, the Pizza Parlour in Thame. He was clutching his daughter in one hand and a knife in the other.

Mr Sahin said: “He was kicking the door with his right boot. He was swearing at me. I got the door open. I could see he was holding his daughter in one arm and in his other hand was a knife.

“Later I noticed there were some blood stains on his trousers.

“He shouted saying nobody believed him but he had done it – he had butchered Julie and Michala.

“I did take the child. I was so concerned I didn’t want her to get hurt in any way so I was in a panic. All I could think of was to get her safe.

“I did get her and he demanded a kiss from her and I let him kiss her.”

Under cross examination, defence barrister Richard Benson put it to Mr Sahin that in the weeks leading up to her death Julie had waved a knife at Gol and threatened him with the words: “I’m going to end up killing you.”

He said: “No that never happened.”

Speaking of Gol’s arrival at the shop Mr Sahin’s co-worker at the takeaway shop, Ali Akar, said: “The little girl was shaking and I asked him what he had done.”

The trial continues.
