A team of bikers has ridden from one side of England to the other to raise cash to support children in an Indian orphanage.

The group rode coast to coast, from Silloth, in Cumbria, to Tynemouth, Newcastle – a total of 136 miles – in three days.

Cash raised will be used to support two projects, a renovation proposal at the orphanage and slum initiatives, including a training scheme for widows and a children’s club.

Organiser Kevin Prior, from Buckingham Road, Bicester, said: “It’s a good cause, making a big difference, and it is a small, locally-run charity with minimal expenses.

“All those taking part in this event fund their own expenses.

“The work in India and the children’s homes are visited regularly by the trustees, at their own expense, who have seen the massive difference this is making to lives.”

The team hopes to raise £3,000. Pictured, from left, are Kevin Peverill, Jeff Elliott, Paul Taylor, Kevin Prior, Mark Bristow, Nicholas Prior, Dean Clayton, Pete Ciechan, Andy Bishop, Steve Flynn and, in the foreground, Wilma Peverill.
