A MAN who drunkenly aimed two kitchen knives at a policeman is facing jail.
Gary Hughes was found by officers in an address in East Oxford, after a 999 call reporting a domestic incident.
When police arrived they found the 43-year-old holding two kitchen knives above his head, Oxford Magistrates’ Court heard on Wednesday.
Prosecutor Sarah McKay said the offence took place on Sunday, May 20, at about 7.25pm.
She said the defendant “wielded two large kitchen knives, one in each hand” and then threatened Pc Phillip Ansell with the weapons while shouting “words to the effect of ‘get out of my house’”.
Hughes, now of Cumberland Road, East Oxford, admitted possessing cannabis and assaulting a police constable.
District Judge Tim Pattinson bailed him to be sentenced on June 29 and said: “You might be looking at custody. When people pick up knives when they are drunk and in a violent mood, courts have to consider that kind of outcome.”
