OXFORD colleges, museums and businesses will all be throwing open their doors for a special event next month.

There will be more than 185 venues and activities taking part in Oxford Open Doors 2012, which is organised by Oxford Preservation Trust working with Oxford University .

This year’s event, on Saturday, September 8, and Sunday, September 9, has a theme of Oxford and Industry.

For the first time, Hertford, Trinity and The Queen’s colleges will be open, along with Magdalen College, the Bodleian Library and All Souls College, which have been taking part for a number of years.

Trust director Debbie Dance said: “Oxford Open Doors is a wonderful and fun weekend, and each year we watch as it develops its own character with new and different events sitting alongside the firm favourites.”

Last year there were 60,000 visitors over the weekend and a similar number are expected this year.

As well as the colleges, people will have a chance to see inside the new Islamic Studies Centre, and go behind the scenes at the Ashmolean Museum .
