POLICE are investigating a report that a woman was seriously sexually assaulted in a secluded Oxford lane.
The footpath part of Barracks Lane, pictured, which runs from Marsh Park to Oxford Spires Academy, was yesterday sealed off by police while the alleged assault was investigated.
The woman reported the alleged attack at about 2.45am and cordons were in place all morning.
Police spokesman Rebecca Webber said: “Officers are waiting to speak to the victim to establish what has happened.”
The alleged attack took place just a few hundred yards from Stepping Stones Nursery.
Nursery manager Jane Jones said she would be contacting parents via a newsletter to make them aware of the incident.
She said: “It is a bit scary to walk down there at that time of night.
“I don’t think I would walk down there at 2am because it is all enclosed. I know there was an assault there a couple of years ago but I have never seen anything untoward there through the day. It’s very concerning.”
