Path Hill Outdoors is providing young people who will be progressing into secondary level education in September, the opportunity to prepare for this transition and boost their confidence with camping experiences in the great outdoors.

The Transition Camps will take place during the summer holidays, and will give young carers and children who need extra support with the move from Year 6 into Year 7 the chance to do taster activities and develop their self-esteem.

Path Hill Outdoors director Mark Hillyer said: “Using our beautiful outdoor spaces near Goring Heath, we can provide a totally different learning environment. Our classrooms are woodland A-frames, yurts and wooden pods.

“We also provide a range of off-site activities such as falconry, blacksmithing and expeditions. Our hands-on approach to learning is based around a variety of practical activities, broken down into short, succinct learning outcomes with clear objectives.

“We work alongside The Teenage Wilderness Trust to ensure that these types of programmes are often free.”

The Transition Camps are one of a range of educational and therapeutic programmes for pupils of all ages offered by the not-for-profit company.

Mr Hillyer added: “Our intervention programmes target disengaged and young people at risk who find mainstream education difficult.

“We work with these students to combat antisocial behaviour, re-engage them in education and improve their self-esteem.

“We also provide educational activities and enrichment days for primary schools linked to the National Curriculum, Forest School Sessions and residential camping experiences.

“Many of these activities contribute toward AQA Unit Award Scheme accreditations and other skills based qualifications.”
